Jama Masjid in Delhi

Jama MasjidJama Masjid is located in Delhi, the capital city of India. It is one of the biggest mosque in Asia. Jama Masjid is situated near Chandni Chowk which one of the busiest street of old Delhi.

Jama Masjid was built by Shah Jahan in 1656, who also built the famous Taj Mahal of Agra. Jama Masjid has spread in a very big area. On the same time it can contains upto 25,000 people. This mosque is also one of the famous tourist spot of Delhi. Every year thousands of visitors visit this historical building of India. 5000 artisans were involved in building this mosque. It took 6 years to built this architectural wonder. This building was built with red sandstone, marble, and standsJama.

Jama Masjid has four towers, three gateways, and two minarets. It is also known as Masjid-I-Jahanuma, which means “mosque commanding view of the world”. There are three gateways to enter in the mosque. The main entrance opens in east. Two other gateways are on south and north side. The main entrance faces the Red Fort, Lal Quila and some another famous building of Delhi. Mosque has three domes. Each one has built with extensive use of white marble.

Jama Masjid is a five storied building. First three stories are built with red sandstone, fourth with marble and again fifth story is built with sandstone. Jama Masjid gets a lot a of crowd in evening.
