National Museum of New Delhi India

National Museum of Delhi is the largest museum in India. This museum is located at Rajpath, Delhi. This museum shows the big picture of Indian culture and history. It is holding 5,000 years of Indian history. Museum has three floors where different galleries containing Indian art have arranged according to different periods. Different galleries of national museum has huge collection of bronzes, terracotta sculptures, paintings and costumes which completely shows the art and history of India.

National MuseumThe galleries on ground floor contains displays from Paleolithic age to the Mughal period. This include paintings and Asian antiquities. Second floor displays weapons, costumes, wood carvings, musical instruments, coins of the historical periods etc.

National museum is also containing a huge collection of Indus Valley Civilization belonging to Mohenjodaro and Harappa. The most outstanding display here is the lyrical bronze Dancing Girl. The Bronze Gallery has a very good collection of chola and pallava. Another gallery is Maurya-Sunga-Satavahana gallery, which display artifacts from 3rd century B.C to 2nd century A.D. It includes stone sculptures depicting Buddha's life and folk deities like Yaksha, Yakshi etc, terracottas, some excellent specimens of Buddhist stupa's and carvings from rock-cut caves. In the Kushana Gallery there are images of Buddhist, Hindu and Jaina deities in human form and exhibits three styles of art from Mathura, Gandhara and Ikshvaku. Classical age of Indian art from 4th to 6th Century A.D with icons of gods, fauna and flora is represented in the Gupta Gallery.
National Museum DelhiThe medieval galleries exhibits, representative examples of various art-styles which flourished side by side in different regions of the country under different powers between 7th and 13th century A.D. Several stone sculptures of the early medieval period and sculptures and temple art of the famous temples like the Sun temple of Konark and Khajuraho etc of the late medieval period are displayed.

India Gate in Delhi

India GateIndia Gate of Delhi is 42m high, situate at Rajpath, New Delhi. Indian gate is also called All India War Memorial, because it was made in the memory of 90,000 soldiers, who left their lives during world war I. It was built in 1921. Amar Jawan Jyoti is lighting under India gate since 1971. The names of many Indian soldiers have been written on the India gate who got killed in Afgan war in 1919.

India gate is also a famous picnic spot. Families gather at India gate in evening for fun and enjoyment. This place is also loved by tourist. Daily number of tourists visit to India gate. This is the most entertaining place specially in summers evening. In summers evenings a very good gathering of people come at India gate. That time it becomes very crowded, but people still enjoy a lot there. Here you can found greenery all around, a small lake which is used for boating. At India gate you can also taste Indian fast foods like chana jor garam, daal ka pakodas, fruit chaat, very famous Indian bhelpuri and many more around there.

Jama Masjid in Delhi

Jama MasjidJama Masjid is located in Delhi, the capital city of India. It is one of the biggest mosque in Asia. Jama Masjid is situated near Chandni Chowk which one of the busiest street of old Delhi.

Jama Masjid was built by Shah Jahan in 1656, who also built the famous Taj Mahal of Agra. Jama Masjid has spread in a very big area. On the same time it can contains upto 25,000 people. This mosque is also one of the famous tourist spot of Delhi. Every year thousands of visitors visit this historical building of India. 5000 artisans were involved in building this mosque. It took 6 years to built this architectural wonder. This building was built with red sandstone, marble, and standsJama.

Jama Masjid has four towers, three gateways, and two minarets. It is also known as Masjid-I-Jahanuma, which means “mosque commanding view of the world”. There are three gateways to enter in the mosque. The main entrance opens in east. Two other gateways are on south and north side. The main entrance faces the Red Fort, Lal Quila and some another famous building of Delhi. Mosque has three domes. Each one has built with extensive use of white marble.

Jama Masjid is a five storied building. First three stories are built with red sandstone, fourth with marble and again fifth story is built with sandstone. Jama Masjid gets a lot a of crowd in evening.

Jantar Mantar of New Delhi

Jantar MantarJantar Mantar is one of the historic places of Delhi. Jantar Mantar is situated in heart of Delhi near Connaught Place. It was built in 724 by Raja Jai Singh. He built five Jantar Mantars in India located in different cities of India which are Delhi, Jaipur, Varanasi, Ujjain and Mathura. Jantar Mantar of Delhi was specially built to perform astronomical calculations.

Jantar Mantar has built with brick rubble that is plastered in lime. Jantar Mantar has different instruments inside it. Some of the famous instruments in Jantar Mantar are Samrat Yantra, Jai Prakash, Ram Yantra, Niyati Chakra, Misra Yantra. These instruments help in performing various astronomical calculations. Now the historical structure of Jantar Mantar has encircled by new office buildings. Jantar Mantar of Delhi is even used by modern day scholars to ascertain the location of the heavenly bodies in our universe.

Jantar Mantar of New Delhi is open public viewing from 10 am to 6 pm. Entry to this historical place is completely free.

Delhi University

Delhi UniversityDelhi University was established in 1922. This is the central university situated in Delhi, India and was founded by government of India. Delhi university offers courses at graduate and post-graduate Delhi university has two campuses, know as north campus and south campus and situated in northern and southern part of city. Delhi university was started by three colleges only which were St. Stephens College, Hindu College and Ramjas College, with only 750 students total and two faculty sections of arts and science departments.

Mughal Garden Delhi

Mughal Garden DelhiThe famous mughal garden of Delhi is located in Rashtrapati Bhawan, the official residence of the President of India. This garden was built in 1929 and one of the famous tourist destinations. The Mughal Garden is opened for public only for a short period in the year. Every year it opens for public viewing only in the month of February and March. The garden has spreaded in the area of 13 acres that includes colourful flowering shrubs and European flowerbeds. This garden has built in three sections which are rectangular garden, long garden and circular garden.


The Circular Garden is also called the sunken or butterfly garden. The main attraction here is sunken pond with a fountain with circular rows of flowers around it. Here you can see a large population of different butterflies. Therefore it named as butterfly garden, also known as pearl garden. Long garden is completely filled with bed of roses. Here you will find roses all around.


The garden has built in complete Mughal style. It has four waterways with beautiful fountains and terraces. The garden is filled with very beautiful flowers all around. Here you will get variety of flowers like roses, marigold, bougainvillea, sweet william, viscaria etc among many others. Apart from these here you will get very special varieties of flowers that you can’t find everywhere. This garden is more popular because of its wide and unique range of flowers.

Red Fort Delhi: Lal Quila

Red Fort DelhiRed Fort which is known as Lal Quila was built by Emperor Shah Jahan. The foundation of Red Fort was laid down 1639 and it was completed in 1648. The total covered area by Red Fort is around 2 km. It has a height of 18 km on the river side and 33 km on the city side.

Red Fort has two important entrances, one form Delhi gate and other from Lahori gate. The main entry point of Red Fort is Lahori gate. Beyond the gate, there is a roofed passage, flanked by arcaded apartments leading to the palaces, known as Chhatta Chowk. These apartments are now being used as shops. Red fort also has three more gates which remains close now.

Red Fort, as one of the heritage buildings of India is the most visited place by tourists and local population. Tourist who come to Delhi must watch this place. Visitors are allowed to visit only some areas of Red Fort. Red Fort as the name shows has been painted in red color. All the buildings of Red fort has been painted by red color. Lotus Temple in Delhi

Lotus TempleLotus Temple is one of the most beautiful temples of India. This temple is about 40m high. Lotus Temple is also called Bahai House of Worship. The most interesting fact about this temple is that it has build in the shape of a half-opened Lotus flower.

Lotus Temple is situated in the south area of Delhi. The exact location of temple is Kalkaji, New Delhi. Lotus Temple has built with pure white marble like Taj Mahal of Agra, India. It was completed in 1986. The complete structure of temple contains 27 giant white marble petals and nine pools. The petals of temple shows unifying spiritual paths of the Baha'i faith, which believes in oneness of all religions and mankind.

This temple is open for all religions. People from all around India visit here. Most important is that, this temple is visited by number of tourists everyday. As a holy temple, it contains Prayers four times a day. During these sessions Prayers of all religions take place there. Prayer timings in temple are as follows:

Qutub Minar: Qutub Minar of New Delhi

Qutub MinarQutub Minar is situated in Qutb complex. Its foundation was laid down by Qutub-ud-Din Aibak but was Completed by His Son-in-law Iltutmish and Further By Firoz Shah Tughlak. Qutub Minar was built in 1193 A.D. In building of Qutub Minar red sandstone has been used. It is 72.5 m high. Having 399 Steps Leading to the Top. Base of Qutub Minar is 14.3m wide, Top Floor is 2.75m wide.

Qutub Minar is honored as one of the earliest and most prominent examples of Indo-Islamic architecture. Qutub Minar has five distinct storeys, each one with a nice balcony. The first three storeys of Qutub Minar has built with red sandstone and the fourth and fifth by marble and sandstone.

Apart from Qutub Minar there are many more historic complexes in Qutb complex. Like one can see there tomb of Adham Khan and Zafar Mahal within Qutub complex and the tomb of Jamali-Kamali behind it. Other structures in Qutb complex are:
  • Tomb of Iitutmish: Tomb of Iitutmish was built in 1235 AD with red sandstone.
  • Alai Minar: Alai Minar was built by Alaud-Din-Khalji. It stands north to Qutub Minar. Alai Minar is 25m in height.
  • Quwwat-ul-Islam: Quwwat-ul-Islam is a mosque constructed by Qutub-ud-din in 1198 also stands in the Qutb complex.
  • Iron Pillar: Iron Pillar is 7m in height and has been made up of 98% wrought iron.
